Root Cause of Disease
Sometimes it is something as simple aswearing contact lenses for too long, or staring at a computer screen for lengthy periods of time without a break. Other causes include, among others: allergies, blepharitis (inflamed eyelid), conjunctivitis (pink eye), dry eye, eye injury, or glaucoma.

Home Remedies to treat Blood Shot Eye
Remedy – 1:
Materials : Use a cool compress
Procedure:
- Soak a clean washcloth or hand towel in cold water and
- Wringing out any excess water. They can then hold the cloth over the affected eye for a few minutes.
- Do for at least 5 mins.
If an infection is the cause of pink eye, it is important not to reuse the washcloth. Doing so may spread the infection to the other eye or to other household members. Instead, a person should use a clean washcloth for each compress and launder used washcloths in hot water.

Materials : Warm Washcloths .
Procedure:
- Wash a cloth in warm water.
- Now put the cloth in hot clean pan and
- Apply the hot cloth on the eye.
- This gives relief on pink eye.

Other Remedies
- According to the book, you can prepare a solution of rose water. Use a dropper or an eye cup; make sure the water is neither too hot nor too cold. A drop or two in the eye will help soothe the irritation. Here’s how you can make rose water at home.
- The book also suggests putting a single drop of pure castor oil into your eyes at bedtime. Make sure the oil does not contain any preservative.
- According to the book, ‘Home Doctor’ by Dr. P.S. Phadke, if you experience redness, pain or even swelling in the eyes, boil a teaspoon of turmeric in two cups of water. Reduce it to a cup and let it cool. Strain four to five times with a muslin cloth. This extract can then be used as an eye drop. Use it at least three to four times a day.
- Infusions made of coriander seeds or fennel seeds can be used as cold eye-washes.
- If there is only a burning sensation in the eyes, cold compress will work. In fact, direct cold application of a little cream of cow’s milk or fresh yogurt will also help soothe the eyes. Make sure the application is cold.

Preventions
- Don’t touch your eyes with your hands.
- Wash your hands often.
- Use a clean towel and washcloth daily.
- Don’t share towels or washcloths.
- Change your pillowcases often.
- Throw away old eye cosmetics, such as mascara.
- Don’t share eye cosmetics or personal eye care items.
