When dry skin causes dandruff, the flakes are usually smaller and less oily than the flakes caused by SD. (Also, cold and dry climates can worsen SD). Washing hair infrequently can worsen the condition.

Pyrithione zinc shampoos (Derma Zinc, Head & Shoulders, others). These contain the antibacterial and antifungal agent zinc pyrithione.

Remedy – 2: Apple Cider Vinegar

Materials: Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Procedure:

Once you have mixed all of the ingredients in the right way, you can go about applying it. ACV is said to be one of the best natural remedies to treat severe dandruff. However, there is a prescribed way in which you need to prepare the paste. Here are some easy steps you need to know for preparing apple cider vinegar.

  • Add some apple cider vinegar to water (Equal parts) and keep it aside.
  • After washing your hair, apply the mix to your wet hair.
  • Gently massage your hair with the mix
  • Leave to dry for 15 minutes and then rinse it off

Remedy – 3: Apply Henna

Materials: Henna

Procedure: 

Firstly, mix henna with curd and a little bit of lemon juice.

  • Once this is formed as a paste, keep the mixture aside for 8 hours.

Coconut oil is said to keep your hair nourished and when this is mixed with a little lemon juice, it can cure dandruff. This is also an easy home remedy to get rid of those tiny flakes that pull your confidence down. Follow these simple tips and get rid of dandruff permanently.

  • Firstly, you need to heat 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and mix it equally with some mixture of lemon juice.
  • Once this is done, you can apply this on your scalp and massage your hair gently with it.
  • After this is done, leave it for 20 minutes and then rinse it off with some shampoo.

Other Remedies

Indian lilac (Neem)

Indian lilac, also known as neem, has antibacterial and antifungal properties which help not just on dandruff problems, but also, they are helping to other scalp problems, for example: itchy scalp, scalp acne and hair fall efficiently. To make this mask you will need four coups of water, then you need to boil a handful of Indian lilac leaves in this amount of water. After you have boiled the leaves from neem, you should cool and strain the solution. Put this mask on your hair two or three times a week.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek, also known as Methi seeds, can also help you with your dandruff. Anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties which contain fenugreek will help your hair and scalp not to have white flakes and itchy and dry scalp. To make a mask from fenugreek you will need one cup of water, one cup apple cider vinegar and tablespoons fenugreek. Soak fenugreek in water overnight. Make paste from the fenugreek in the morning. To complete the mask, you will need to put one cup apple cider vinegar in the mix from water and fenugreek and after you have mixed this mask you should apply it on your scalp. Let the mask dry on your hair for thirty minutes and after that you should wash your hair with mild shampoo. This mask can help you relieve itchiness and dry scalp.

Aloe Vera gel

Anti-fungal properties which contain aloe Vera gel are helpful to your scalp, making it dry and clean and also relieves it from itching. Many cases have shown that this aloe Vera gel has won so many times against dandruff. To make a mask from aloe Vera gel you will need 5 tablespoons of aloe Vera gel. You can use the aloe Vera gel which many stores are having or you can scoop out gel from aloe plant. You should massage your scalp with aloe Vera gel and leave this mask for 30 minutes. You have to be sure that your hair is not oiled. After 30 have passed you should wash your hair with mild shampoo or with plain water. If your hair is dry and frizzy you can do this mask every day.

Tea tree oil

Studies have shown that if you put tea tree oil in your shampoo it will help you a lot against dandruff. When you wash your hair, you can add a few drops in your shampoo and wash your hair as normally.

Preventions  

Other tips to prevent dandruff include:

  • Wash your hair every day to reduce excess oil on the scalp
  • Stay away from any hair products that contain alcohol or bleach, as well as oily hair products that will only cause more oil to buildup on the scalp
  • Find ways to effectively manage stress, which can trigger or exacerbate dandruff
  • Get a small amount of sun exposure every day (just a couple of minutes), which could help get your symptoms under control (talk to your dermatologist before doing so, as excess sun exposure can be harmful)
  • Eat a healthy diet that is rich in vitamin B, zinc, and healthy fats
